SIFI-AHSSI Outreach Helps 288 Sugar Workers

The 183rd medical dental mission of the Sugar Industry Foundation, Inc. (SIFI) in cooperation with Asociacion De Hacienderos De Silay Saravia, Inc. (AHSSI) thru SIMAG Foundation, Inc. was held at Hda. Hinicayan Elementary School, Brgy. E. Lopez, Silay City, Negros Occidental. It was assisted by the LGU of Silay & Brgy. Council of E. Lopez. SIFI was headed by Miss Neolita Y. Alminaza and supported by SIFI staff while SIMAG Foundation, Inc. was represented by its Project Staff.

The LGU of Silay City assisted by sending their 2 dentists. Brgy. E.Lopez headed by their Punong Barangay, Ms. Debbie Jinon together with her Kagawad, Midwife and BHWs, gave full support to the mission team.

The outreach helped 288 sugar workers: 253 of them availed of free medical consultation and medicines; 43 had dental extractions; and 200 children and some adults were fed. The feeding materials were provided by the Loving Rose Mission Philippines and the Ontario Gleaners of Canada.

Prevalent illnesses were hypertension, upper respiratory tract infection, abdominal pain, LBM, cough and colds, fever, first degree malnutrition among children, hyperacidity, gastritis, arthritis and anemia for adults.

The services rendered by the doctors and the cooperation and support of our partners contributed to the success of the mission. The medical doctors who joined in the mission were: Doctors, Milagros Amarra, Nadara Gendrala, Judith Chua, & Mary June Cabarles- Señeres. The dentists were Benette Llamado & Rey Martin Locson with 4 dental aides

The outreach is part of SIFI’s thrust to provide medical services and health education to sugar workers and their families.
