THE WORLD OF WORK: CAREER PREPARATION FOR SCHOLARS

The “SIFI Scholars Career Preparation Workshop: Entering the World of Work” training-workshop was led by mentor Dr. Marie Therese V. Jochico, EdD.

Benjamin Franklin said that failing to prepare is preparing to fail. And to prepare its graduating scholars to successfully face the professional world, SIFI conducted the “SIFI Scholars Career Preparation Workshop: Entering the World of Work” at PSMA Training Hall, SIFI Training Center, Talisay City last May 20, 2022.

28 VRO scholars, who are all graduating this 2022, participated in the event. The training-workshop was spearheaded by Skills Training Officer Angelie Quinadalla and was led by mentor Dr. Marie Therese V. Jochico, EdD.

Introducing yourself with a twist. The scholars were grouped and instead of introducing themselves, they were assigned by Dr. Jochico to get to know their groupmates/partner and introduce them to the group.

The training-workshop focused on guiding the scholars on how to prepare a resume and cover letter for fresh graduates and how to ace a job interview. Dr. Jochico also discussed how to identify a person’s hard and soft skills, how to adapt to the 21st century work landscape, and how to face the realities of the professional world.

To give the scholars a glimpse of how job interviews are conducted in a professional setting, SIFI VRO officers with the assistance of Dr. Jochico managed individual mock interviews with each of the participants.

All SIFI staff and participants present were fully vaccinated. Health and safety protocols were observed during the training-workshop.
