The Sugar Industry Foundation, Inc. (SIFI) recently held its 47th Annual General Assembly at the Romulo Café, Makati City with numerous attendees including SIFI trustees, stakeholders, guests and staff. SIFI President Ms. Edith Villanueva shared the highlights of CY2017 as well as plans for CY2018. A success story was shared by the MACARBEN Cooperative in Negros Occidental, a SIFI Livelihood partner which has grown from a simple coop to a multi-business entrepreneur organization.
The members of the assembly also elected its new 15-man Board of Trustees to serve for two years, 2018 and 2019. The new SIFI Board is led by Bernardo Trebol as Chairman, Edith Villanueva as President and COO, Gerard Seno as Vice Chairman, Atty. Jesus Barrera as Corporate Secretary, Joseph Conrad Ledesma as Treasurer, and Francisco Varua as Assistant Treasurer.
The rest of the SIFI trustees are Rene Rodriguez, Jose Ledesma IV, Rolando Pineda, Ferdinand Marañon and Rolando Lavina II representing CONFED. For LUZONFED, the representative is Jose Angelo Flores; for PANAYFED Dulce Blas, and for Philippine Sugar Millers Association (PSMA) Terence Uygongco. For the Labor Workers Sector, the representative is Roland De la Cruz. The newly-elected Board has vowed to continue the effective programs and projects of the Foundation.
