Hands-on Training on Improving Organic Vegetable Production

There are many reasons to consider when growing organic vegetables. In Organic Farming, it is a method where crop and livestock production involves organic fertilizers, genetically modified organisms, antibiotics and growth hormones. In addition, Organic Production is a holistic system designed to optimize the productivity and fitness of diverse communities within the agro-ecosystem including soil organisms, plants, livestock and people. The primary goal of organic production is to develop enterprises that are sustainable and harmonious with the environment.

As part of SIFI pillars for development on Livelihood Program, A Hands-on Training for Organic Vegetables Production was conducted at Barangay Lucban, Balayan Batangas last June 20, 2018.

The activity was headed by Mr. Reynaldo Marasigan and it aimed to help the farmers in using the new methods and technologies for organic farming especially the PINAKBET model. They also promote good varieties of vegetables according to the needs of the community.

As part of the activity, they demonstrated the basic steps of organic farming and the primary methods including crop rotation, green manure and compost, biological pest control, and mechanical cultivation. There was also a discussion for marketing strategy and on how they will send and supply the organic vegetables to the target market.
