The Sugar Industry Foundation, Inc. (SIFI)’s Child Labor Mitigation Program continues its goal to reach far-flung communities in Batangas and Negros Occidental by conducting awareness-raising sessions on child rights and child labor.
The Child Labor Mitigation Program (CLMP) under SIFI’s Advocacy Pillar was relaunched in 2023 to spread awareness on child rights and child labor in the areas of Batangas and Southern Negros Occidental.
Schools and barangays were the target audience for this series of awareness-raising sessions. Child rights, child labor vs child work, and responsibilities of a child were the main topics discussed during the sessions. Queries were also answered by the Child Rights Advocates (CRAs) who are trained mentors residing in the area guided by SIFI to keep watch, counsel erring parents and report any incidence on child labor to the proper authorities.
A total of 508 beneficiaries attended from the schools and communities in Nasugbu and Tuy, Batangas. In Negros Occidental, 307 individuals from 9 ARBOs participated in the awareness-raising sessions held in the cities and towns of Victorias, Talisay, Bago, Murcia, and Pontevedra.
School supplies and kits were also distributed as incentives to the students who participated in the session.
SIFI aims to develop the dynamics and networking for the CLMP alongside its CRAs. This series of awareness-raising sessions is the first step to the upcoming collaborations of CRAs with their local organizations.
