SIFI together with the three mills of Victorias Milling Company, HPCo and Lopez Sugar have taken up initiatives for Responsible Sourcing of Sugar (RSS) with support from Nestle Global through Proforest UK. These include promotion of workers’ rights and safe working conditions, sustainable farming, trash farming, and child labor mitigation among others.
Last February 27, 2018, SIFI conducted a CRA Updating and Planning Workshop with 13 active Child Rights Advocates (CRAs) in attendance.This was held at the SIFI Training Center in Talisay City, Negros Occidental.
During the event, the CRAs listed possible roles they will take in awareness raising, policy advocacy, posting of farm notices and monitoring. The CRAs were also excited about the prospect of expanding their community “tipon-tipons” to include topics on the value of savings, climate change adaptation, setting up social enterprises and promoting life skills trainings.
