A training session on managing a small food cart business was held for the sugar workers in Don Carlos, Bukidnon.
Prior to this training session, the sugar workers requested for a small food cart as their start-up livelihood.
The training gathered 44 attendees from 3 barangays who gained insights into starting the business. The fabricated steel food cart, was studied for by the group at the start of the training. The cart represented a significant component of the event, enabling the sugar workers to launch their business after the training. Carefully designed to meet the proponents’ needs, the cart can be easily transported and secured when left unused. Additional materials and tools were also delivered to aid the participants’ business endeavors.
Some participants indicated a long-standing interest in this type of business but felt uncertain on how to begin. With SIFI’s support, the sugar workers expressed their gratitude on the assurance on their first step to having a sustainable livelihood. The sugar workers submitted their requirements for DOLE registration and are working on their applications for the start up. The group, headed by Mr. Acao, will collectively contribute ₱500 to provide initial capital for the business.
In the coming weeks, the group will focus on refining their products, practicing recipes, and perfecting their customer service approach. Regular meetings will be held to monitor progress, address challenges, and celebrate successes.
While organizing can be a daunting and laborious task, it remains the sole path for SIFI to extend their support. Through this effort, SIFI hopes to cultivate a stable sugar community capable of standing independently.
