FIRST AID TRAINING TAKES PLACE WITH PARTNER ORGANIZATIONS

The Sugar Industry Foundation, Inc. (SIFI) conducted the First Aid Training and Safety Measures Seminar to two of its partner associations, in collaboration with the Negros Occidental Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO).

To enhance community awareness and knowledge on basic disaster preparedness measures, SIFI partnered with the Negros Occidental PDRRMO to organize a training that provides hands-on skills development on first-aid and safety protocols. The training also emphasized the importance of community collaboration and communication for effective response in the household and in the workplace. The participating organizations for this training were Negros COFA and The Sugar Association, Inc. (TSA).

Negros COFA attended the training on September 5, 2025 at their office in Binalbagan with 72 participants, while TSA assembled at 21 Restaurant, Bacolod City on September 12, 2025 alongside 42 participants. The attendees were mostly composed of staff members of each association’s transloading stations, coordinators, and board of trustees. The training was headed by PDRRMO Officers Christopher Dorde, Geve Libertad, and Robert Araneta.

The training started with discussions on the difference between calamities and disasters. Salient points were also shared by the PDRRMO regarding standard operating procedures on community disaster preparedness and safety measures in the workplace and household. A brief earthquake drill was then exercised with the participants.

This progressed to the presentation of emergency procedures requiring first aid application on victims. The participants were then tasked to follow the PDRRMO’s demonstration on the types of bandaging on injured individuals as well as improvising a stretcher made of available household or workplace materials. The PDRRMO was also able to demonstrate and encourage participants to practice hands-only cardiopulmonary resuscitation on CPR mannequins.

The participants expressed their gratitude to the PDRRMO that they now have better understanding on first aid and safety measures especially that they face risks in the transloading station.
