SUNN ENGAGES WITH SIFI’S MODEL FARM INITIATIVE

The Sugar Industry Foundation, Inc. (SIFI) signs memorandum of partnership with the State University of Northern Negros (SUNN) for model farm initiative.

After multiple collaborative engagements and activities, a memorandum of partnership has been signed by SIFI and SUNN in the hopes of developing and strengthening existing farms into diverse and productive agro-tourism sites.

SIFI’s partnership with SUNN is key in reaching a Learning Site and Agro-tourism Site status. The initiative is in collaboration with GA Lua Farm, as it undertakes steps to become the first model farm in Negros Occidental.

SUNN expressed their interest and willingness to collaborate in sharing information and technology transfer for the model farm. This comprises of farm management, processing, packaging, and marketing of animal and crop products. Areas for improvement were assessed in GA Lua Farm and have been recommended with solutions by SIFI and SUNN.

“This partnership will become a catalyst for innovation, resilience, nation-building, and work hand in hand to both academia and industry for a brighter sustainable future”, says Dr. Judith Rabacal, SUNN Vice-President of Academic Affairs. “The partnership will act as a guiding light for collaboration, innovation, and service benefitting students, farmers, and local communities,” expressed by Dr. Mae Ann Tongol, SUNN Dean of the College of Agriculture and Allied Sciences.

The partnership will open various areas of collaboration, including joint research, development and innovation, extension and community development, advocacy, training, and resource sharing.
